• Accelerate development with GitHub Copilot coding agent

Prerequisites

• Basic understanding of GitHub fundamentals
• A GitHub account and a fundamental understanding of GitHub Copilot
• GitHub account with Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+, Copilot Business, or Copilot Enterprise
• Repositories hosted on GitHub (agent does not work on non-GitHub hosts)
• Basic familiarity with issues, pull requests, Actions, and repository rulesets
• Visual Studio Code or another editor that supports MCP integration
• If you’re a member of an organization or enterprise with a Copilot Business or Copilot Enterprise plan, the “MCP servers in Copilot” policy must be enabled in order to use MCP with Copilot. (Optional)
• A GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT) for advanced setup and permissions control.
• Docker installed if you plan to experiment with a local server setup for hands-on control.
• GitHub Copilot enabled on your account (Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+, Business, or Enterprise plan recommended for full code review features).
• Basic familiarity with pull requests and code reviews-creating a PR, leaving comments, and merging changes.
• Basic understanding of JavaScript, like variables and conditionals.
• Ability to use Git and GitHub for version control.
• A GitHub Account with an active subscription for GitHub Copilot is required for either your personal GitHub account or a GitHub account managed by an organization or enterprise. For learning purposes, you should find the Copilot Free option with usage limits to be sufficient.
• Basic understanding of Python and text editors.
• Basic comprehension of Git and GitHub Fundamentals. Particularly, running basic git commands like git add and git push.
• A GitHub Account with an active subscription for GitHub Copilot is required for either your personal GitHub account or a GitHub account managed by an organization or enterprise. For learning purposes, the Copilot Free option with usage limits should be sufficient.
